Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with an authentic home-made African meal courtesy of Axum Ethiopian Restaurant (suggested donation $10). Film begins at 6:45 p.m.
To mark International Human Rights Day on December 10, Amnesty International and Canadian Students for Darfur present the premiere screening of Darfur, a dramatisation of four journalists caught up in a vicious Janjaweed raid to destroy a Darfuri village and rape and murder its people.

Panel discussion on Canadian options in Darfur

We will be hosting a panel discussion for what Canadians can do in Darfur based on our policy paper. Our panel is made up of the following representatives:
Khamis Rahma Abdelkarim, Lingana Foundation
Khamis is from Darfur and serves on Lingana’s Board of Directors as advisor on issues pertaining to Sudan. Khamis also leads media relations for The Lingana Foundation and assists the Lingana Foundation with cultural and tribal understanding.
Lingana’s focus is to offer compassionate, holistic and sustainable programs for children and their communities, in the conflict and poverty stricken areas of Sudan (Darfur region), Chad and Central African Republic.
Marie Ang, Lingana Foundation
Marie is a dedicated volunteer researcher and community liaison for the Lingana Foundation. She is studying Global Resources Systems at UBC with a focus on Middle East and Africa. Her aim is to pursue aid and economic development. Marie is also involved in advocacy through STAND UBC and Palestinian Human Rights.
Toshio Rahman
Toshio Rahman worked as an intern for Amnesty International in Vancouver in 2008 where he focused on the conflict in Darfur. His final project there was organizing the ‘2008 Youth Darfur Conference;’ a youth-based conference on the genocide in Darfur. He continues to stay involved with Amnesty acting as a fieldworker for the organization.
He currently works for Senator Mobina Jaffer researching and working on various human rights issues which include homelessness in Canada as well as the Omar Khadr case.
MP Bill Siksay
Bill Siksay was first elected to the House of Commons to represent Burnaby-Douglas in 2004. An active member of the New Democratic Party for more than 20 years, Bill has served on provincial and federal riding associations, and numerous committees.
He currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics. Bill has also served as New Democrat critic for Citizenship and Immigration and Canadian Heritage.
